A series of 4 lessons based on the short story by Ray Bradbury, involving close analysis of language of certain sections of the story, a consideration of the postion of women in society in the 1950’s, and plenty of opportunity for creative writing, both throughout the story and at the end.
This also references the film ‘Jaws’ when examining the use of tension by the writer and the ‘Back to the Future’ chase scene when looking at how Bradbury uses the device of anti climax throughout the text.
The lessons can stand alone or be taught as part of a longer term’s worth of lessons for Gothic literature.
They can also be used as a separate unit for a week’s worth of work.
