'This is NOT an exercise': Literature Edition...
Higher or A - level English level.

5 page word exercise booklet written in a self-mocking, wistful, comic style to directly engage with a bored, cynical student in a classroom environment. The questions (which are written rather melodramatically and with frequent uses of imagery) challenge the student to 'fight' the writer of the exercise who presents his/her own controversial, subversive opinions and then 'demands' the student's personal response and opinions on these issues - as relating to descriptions of characterisation and setting, an understanding of irony, the overall purpose of literature, and the purpose of tragedy in particular. This booklet allows students to feel a sense of 'escape' from the usual literature exercise format and gives them an opportunity to 'vent' (hopefully in a creative, productive way) within their own writing.

Student familiarity with Oscar Wilde and Shakespeare would be an advantage.
