10 TY Science Challenges

Welcome to the 10 TY Science Challenges resource booklet, designed to ignite curiosity and foster a deeper
engagement with science for Transition Year students. This resource moves beyond rote memorization,
encouraging students to embrace the core principles of STEM through hands-on exploration, critical
thinking, and collaborative problem-solving. Each challenge is crafted to be a standalone activity, requiring
minimal preparation and readily available materials, making it an ideal addition to any TY Science
curriculum.
These challenges are designed to be student-centred, promoting active learning and allowing students to
discover scientific concepts through experimentation and design. They are not intended as Junior Cycle
revision or Leaving Certificate exam preparation, but rather as an opportunity for students to apply scientific
principles in creative and practical ways.
