  • Power Point
  • Note booklet for students to fill in during lessons (matches Power Point)
  • Marking grid for DNA project

This resource is designed and created to teach the following Edexcel SNAB spec points:

2.5 i) Know the basic structure of mononucleotides (as a deoxyribose or ribose linked to a phosphate and a base, ie thymine, uracil, cytosine, adenine or guanine) and the structures of DNA and RNA (as polynucleotides composed of mononucleotides linked through condensation reactions).

ii)Know how complementary base pairing and the hydrogen bonding between two complementary strands are involved in the formation of the DNA double helix.

However, activities and resources can be adapted for different exam boards and specifications

Content includes:

  • The general structure of nucleotides
  • Structure and function of ATP
  • Structure and function of RNA
  • Structure and function of DNA

Activities:

  • Back-to-back mini whiteboard game
  • Video links to Youtube
  • Class challenge - build a DNA model as quick as you can!
  • Build a DNA model out of sweets! (includes marking grid for teachers)
  • Exam questions and answers
  • Comparison table for students to complete
  • Homework tasks
  • Revision lesson

I also created a markscheme for a Watson and Crick comprehension activity which can be found here :[https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/watson-and-crick-comprehension-6064356]
