This resource contains five excerpts from different novels, each showcasing a different element of quality narrative fiction (e.g. different stylistic devices).
There is an analytical and a creative writing question/activity for each excerpt to guide students in considering the ways in which authors actively construct texts to achieve a particular effect on their audience. These activities have helped students to strengthen their own understanding of key literary devices and confidence utilising them in their own creative writing.
This document is editable so that you can adjust or add questions and/or excepts as needed.
I have used it as guided lesson content, as home learning tasks, and as the basis of assessment in the past.
