A full lesson on how microorganisms grow in closed culture for the 6.4 Cloning & Biotechnology topic. This lesson is specifically for the new OCR A Level Biology specification, but could be used for any exam board if adapted.

The lesson focuses on how microorganisms are are grown in closed culture, how bacterial growth is measured and how serial dilutions are performed. There is an important section on the "Growth Curve", and what the lag, log, stationary and death phase are. Each section is detailed and informs students about what occurs in each part of the curve. There is also a handout of the curve that students can label.

There is no need for you to plan a lesson, as everything you need to deliver the lesson is included. There is an exam question that you can use to assess progress.
