For KS2 Spanish, see Mexican pupils make a piñata and sing a song.

In Mexico, no birthday celebration would be complete without a piñata. Román and friends Alondra and Daniel give us a step-by-step demonstration of how to make a piñata at home, and then what to do with it when it’s finished!

The film also features the song that accompanies the breaking of the piñata, with the lyrics appearing on screen, karaoke-style. This lesson starter relates to the language and themes explored in Unit 17 of the QCDA scheme of work for KS2 Spanish. Shot on location in southern Veracruz, Mexico, the video offers opportunities to develop language skills and intercultural understanding. There are detailed teaching notes to accompany this film.
