Puzzle style activity suitable for KS4 and KS5. Many opportunities for extension and task expansion. This activity invites students to play with the definition of mean, median and mode in the context of a small data set. It could be argued that this is more number theory than statistics; the 'puzzle' element is strong here.

This is a thought-provoking activity. Should really help cement thinking about the three types of averages. I'll be using this with my A level lot as a little activity to break them back into maths/stats!

A nice investigation lesson looking into rolling a dice 5 times to generate a small data set. Links in with mean, median and mode lessons too. I like the fact that there is an extension activity built into the task already, but there are many opportunities for further extension activities for the more able, or differentiated tasks for group work.
