These 5 short lessons support the reading of the Maths picture book ‘A’ Beach for Albert’ by Eleanor May from the Mouse Math series. The lesson is designed with early learning goals in mind - so beneath each lesson input on the plan you will find a daily activity task idea to set up for guided play and exploration.
A fun, practical fusion of reading comprehension, Maths and independent investigation, the children will be super engaged with these hands-on and practical capacity related investigations. A fun way to introduce the concept of capacity; this lesson includes supporting resources found in most early learning classrooms (see below for details).

- 3 x worksheet templates for recorded work
Additional resources needed:
- The book ‘A Beach for Albert’ by Eleanor May (FYI there are YouTube readings if budget is low!)
- Set of measuring cups
- Tupperware box or some kind of container
- 2 different containers with same capacity
- Sand/rice/dried beans
- Selection of scoops/spoons
- 4 or 5 different sized containers
- 2 small bottles and one large bottle
- 2 plastic cups and beads/marbles
- 7/8 empty plastic bottles with sand
- Post-it notes
- Shoe box and duplo bricks/building blocks
