I am pleased to add a fun, engaging but simple transition project involving your Year 7s and Year 6 pupils.

Firstly, you will need to teach your Year 7 group about descriptive writing.

The descriptive writing task for Year 6 transition pupils will be to describe Little Red Riding Hood’s journey through the forest to her grandma’s cottage. Pupils will imagine they are her and describe their journey.

Pupils from Year 6 transition will visit your classroom and do a series of ‘marketplace’ inspiration stations - each will be to do with an element of descriptive writing – vocabulary, simile, metaphor, personification, zooming in on detail etc. When these stations have been visited, Year 6 pupils will sit down and complete the piece of descriptive writing; your Year 7 pupils will then act as ‘teachers’ – walking around and supporting each Year 6 learner.

This is a must-have project that will save lots of time and planning and will create fantastic links between your school and feeder schools!
