This is a lesson I used myself to teach students the techniques to score the most possible marks in the 25 marker essay question - A level Biology, AQA specifica.tion.

Learning objective: To evaluate the biological importance of various molecules and processes by synthesizing knowledge from across the specification to construct a coherent, 25-mark synoptic essay.

By the end of the lesson learners should be able to:

Success criteria:

SC1: Analysis of Marking Requirements I can identify that a top-band essay requires 12–15 accurate ideas from 6–8 sub-topics, whereas fewer ideas or descriptive-only content will limit the mark to lower bands.

SC2: Application of the PEALER Technique I can use the PEALER structure to develop mechanistic explanations and synoptic links, ensuring every paragraph connects a specific biological process to organism survival and the essay title.

SC3: Strategic Essay Planning I can produce a 5-minute mind map containing 8–12 keywords to ensure breadth across the specification, selecting the 6–8 strongest sub-topics to construct a coherent, logical essay.

Contains all past paper 25 marker questions that cover the entirety of the course, some questions require knowledge from prior lessons. The mark scheme is also included to verify answers.

Guide plans are included for each essay in the powerpoint if students are struggling for ideas.

Powerpoint contains 58 slides and 48 past paper questions.
