These resources can be used for any A level Physics exam board and the IB Physics course. They are designed to be used specifically for students entering into Post-16 education.

The aim of this transition pack and summer homework is to give students an insight into Post-16 Physics, and to help prepare them for the change in demand from GCSE.

The transition pack includes:

  • An overview of A level Physics.
  • Recommendations for books, films and video clips, that are interesting and relate to Physics.
  • Recommendations for day trips and visits that relate to Physics.
  • Details on how to create Cornell Notes
  • Independent study tasks (to practice their note taking)

In addition to this are summer homework tasks, which are designed to give students practice in some essential practical and mathematical skills.

Summer homework includes:

  • Mathematical booklet to practice skills in converting between units, using standard form, using significant figures and rearranging equations.
  • Practical skills task to draw a graph of results (the graph is of resistivity and length of a wire - practical results are included)
  • Practical skills task to calculate the gradient of a graph (students have to use the gradient to calculate the resistivity of the wire from the results - instructional video included)
  • A practice A level exam question with calculation and longer written answer (mark scheme included).
