What’s included?
x3 sets of blank addition sums, x1 black and white and x2 rainbow themed, x5 pages in total. All portrait orientation, in PDF format.
What’s it for?
This resource provides a clear template for learners to practice simple addition. The different coloured boxes for each sum makes it clear to learners which sum they are working on at any one time. They can use the blank sums with hands-on items they enjoy, like toys or counters, to help solve each sum.
For added flexibility, an adult can write numbers on the sheet for the learner, or the learner can create their own sums using dice or number cards.
Who’s it for?
These (blank) addition sums have been designed for pupils in years one and two or older students needing additional support with their learning.
Addition Resources Overview
This resource offers three blank addition sum options. Each sum is clearly laid out with different colours/shades to help learners focus on one problem at a time. There is a line under every box for writing numbers.
Addition Sums (Single Sheet)
- Rainbow Colour Version: This PDF includes four blank addition problems on one page, each in a different colour.
Addition Sums (Two Sheets)
-
Rainbow Colour Version: This two-page PDF contains a total of eight blank addition problems, with each sum in a different colour for added challenge.
-
Black and White Version: This two-page PDF also features eight blank sums. To ensure clarity, each sum alternates between different shades of grey and black.
Recommendations
Small objects can be placed in each box, ensuring they are not a choking hazard for young learners. Suggestions include:
- small coloured matchsticks
- buttons
- pom poms
- coloured dot/spot stickers
- small ‘themed’ stickers especially if matched to your learner’s interests
For more autonomy, learners can create their own addition problems using number cards or by rolling dice. They can then draw the corresponding number of dots or use dot stickers to record their chosen numbers in the boxes provided.
Top tip
When working on addition problems, encourage learners to always place the larger number first and count on from there to find the total.
