While Islam is much more homogeneous as a community than Christianity, it is still useful to remind our pupils that there are millions of Muslims and there will be some variety in the way that they interpret the teachings. There are distinct differences, knowledge of which may not be required for the exam but would still be of value in giving a clearer picture of reality. Sunni, Shi'ite, Ismaili, Sufi Nation of Islam and AAhmadiyya are those I am familiar with.
