Pupils get shown several shapes which are to be represented by letters. They then have to state the areas of some compound shapes algebraically, which are made up of the original ones. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)

Exactly what I needed for year 9 on a Friday afternoon
I really like this resource as it provides a great introduction to algebraic expressions and helps students visualise what is going on. The powerpoint is very clear to follow and the accompanying worksheet is excellent.
