Andrea Mantegna - Perspective, Foreshortening, Guidelines and Tone

This is a presentation I use to bring together various formal elements the students have learnt such as perspective, foreshortening and tone. The additional element to the students skills set is the understanding and correct use of guidelines to improve accuracy of image transfer (This is not a complete grid style approach). The guidelines allow students to find related elements of an image using vertical and horizontal lines that are then constructed into a grid. Students can then produce an outcome that is identical in size or explore how they can use ratio proportions to reduce or enlarge the drawing/painting in size in relation to the primary source.
Good opportunity to assess development and understanding of formal elements.
