This resource will help students to learn about the Civil War in Russia. It is tailored for the AQA A-Level course (2N: Revolution and dictatorship: Russia 1917-1953) and requires the Oxford AQA textbook (ISBN: 0198354584) in order to complete the activities.

It can be used in a variety of ways - revision, self study, pre-reading, consolidation work, homework, the questions can be used as part of a lesson presentation or as a worksheet.

Be aware that the resource is differentiated into beginner, intermediate and advanced levels, with each level testing differing skills. I usually start students on the intermediate tasks and let them decide if they need to do the beginner tasks next or move onto the advanced task.

The following topics are covered:

2.2.1. causes and course of the civil war;
2.2.2. the role of Trotsky;
2.2.3. the murder of the Tsar;
2.2.4. the reasons for the Red victory;
2.2.5. government and control in wartime
