This lesson provides a clear and simple approach to tacking poetry comparison with AQA - however is also accessible with Edexcel. It provides a detailed and clear structure for the question with a step by step guide. All of the printing is included on the Power Point as separate slides. This lesson focusses on comparing Poppies, Kamikazi and The Emigree, however the process is easily replicated for any comparison - just change the theme and the quotations! Please note that the poems are not included in the Power Point.

Lesson includes:

* DO NOW activity - a Venn diagram that encourages pupils to find commonalities between three poems. The Venn diagram focusses on how 'memories' are within the three poems.
* Comparison table for pupils to complete. All of the quotations for Poppies are provided.
* A slide that teaches pupils how to structure their initial response (focusing on one poem) - step by step, (from opening statement of comparison, to how to end the paragraph by looking at the contextual factors.) This slide includes examples and sentence starters for each step of the way. This is colour coded.
* A slide that shows pupils how to compare the poems. This demonstrates what a compete paragraph should entail.
* Plenary activity. This focusses on pupils reading their work and annotating it.
