This ESL movie guide lesson plan accompanies the movie “Avatar” (2009) and is ideal for your intermediate students. It targets listening and viewing comprehension.

This lesson plan can be used as a “Back to School” activity with newcomers because while watching and doing exercises you will easily identify their language level. It also can be used as the last lesson of the term \ year.

This guide will also work well as a lesson plan for your substitute teacher.

It consists of 4 pages printable handouts + teacher’s copy with keys.

You will find pre-viewing, viewing and post-viewing activities, which include comprehension questions, listening for specific information, completing the sentences, guessing what is going to happen, etc

The exercises are focused on the first part of film (before the war), so the students don’t have to watch the whole movie to complete the tasks.

After watching they will have to complete the table, comparing people and the Na’vi (looks, clothes, weapons, attitude toward nature) and give a talk to the class about the differences.
