Engage Your Students with Interactive Revision for Osmosis!
Transform your students’ revision with this hands-on, collaborative game focused on osmosis and the classic potato practical. Perfect for groups, this resource provides an enjoyable and competitive way for students to strengthen their understanding of core GCSE Biology concepts through structured practice.
How It Works:
Preparation: Print and cut out the osmosis revision cards
B1 Osmosis Cards (1)
. Print the game board as A3, or even better, use card for durability.
Materials Needed: Students will need calculators (for percentage change calculations), rulers, mini whiteboards or paper for working out, and counters (paper versions in colour and black-and-white included). A periodic table is not required for this game.
Group Setup: Arrange students into groups of 2–5 for optimal collaboration and discussion.
Gameplay:
Each student places their counter at the “Start” on the game board.
Designate a “Reader” who reads questions from the osmosis revision cards. The reader can also display key terms (e.g. dilute, concentrated, percentage change, cell wall) to support vocabulary retention.
Each student takes turns answering questions. Correct answers allow them to roll the dice and move forward, creating a fun race to the “Finish”!
Questions cover:
• The definition of osmosis
• Movement of water between dilute and concentrated solutions
• Animal vs plant cell responses (bursting, turgid, flaccid)
• The potato practical method and equipment
• Percentage change in mass calculations
• Interpretation of results
