Bastille Day Poster

Teacher Description – Bastille Day Colouring Poster

This Bastille Day colouring poster introduces pupils to France’s national day, celebrated each year on 14 July. The illustration combines important historical and modern symbols, including the Storming of the Bastille in 1789, the French national motto “Liberté, Égalité, Fraternité” (“Liberty, Equality, Fraternity”), the French flag, fireworks, and the modern military parade associated with Bastille Day celebrations.

The poster provides an engaging cross-curricular activity that supports learning in History, Geography, Languages (French), Citizenship, and Art. Pupils can colour the illustrations while discussing the causes and significance of the French Revolution, the importance of national celebrations, and the meaning of the values represented by the French motto.

Please note that the artwork is a symbolic educational illustration rather than a single historical scene. It combines events from different periods of French history to help children recognise the key ideas and traditions associated with Bastille Day.

Suitable for: KS2–KS3 (ages 7–14), classroom displays, history lessons, French language activities, and independent learning.
