Last year I was asked to teach a unit of narrative poetry on Beowulf. Only the original translation in olde english is in a poem format, so I had to go through the texts and choose suitable quotes and extracts, so that my class could see the original writing, get a feel for the language, and follow on with the story at the same time.
There are 4 powerpoints in total. The first is summaries of the main characters in the story, with suitable quotes that describe their appearance and personalities.
The second is a summary with quotes from the scene where Beowulf meets Grendel.
Next is the scene where Grendels mother seeks her revenge.
Finally is the end of the play, with Beowulfs fight with the dragon
Hopefully this saves somebody else some time.

This is amazing! It allows the kids to get close to the text without even needing a dictionary: the quotes are so cleverly picked that most medium ability groups can work their way through and guess the meanings of unfamiliar words. All highly adaptable
