This resource is aimed at students learning the basics about best buys. The powerpoint has a brain in gear where students have to divide and a challenge where they have to round these numbers. There is then a starter activity on best buy problems which is differentiated for the students. The powerpoint then goes through the aims of the lesson and outcomes. Examples can be done with the students and then more examples for students to complete on their mini whiteboards. Students to then complete the match up activity. The essential questions are where the students have to find the best buy (divide money by what you get), orange is real life questions and red is past GCSE questions. The match up is best if the essential questions are printed in green, excel in orange, challenge in red and the answers in blue. Students then match them up. There is a slide to help students with the excel and challenge part of the lesson. Answers are then provided and a singing plenary to finish with. Students have to write the correct answer on their mini whiteboards and the part of frozen will play to them.
This is a nice activity to introduce the idea of ratio, by using sequences. Suitable for KS2.
I found it useful to use pieces of card (e.g. 1 yellow for every 2 blue) to visually demonstrate beforehand (using volunteers - each holding the correct ratio) and show how to record this into a table on the whiteboard as you go, before using this resource as the main activity.
I also allowed children to use counters at their table to aid them whilst completing the worksheet, as this was very beneficial to some learners.
