This resource includes three differentiated versions of Black History Month comprehension sheets, carefully designed to suit a wide range of learners. With texts covering 15 significant Black figures from Rosa Parks to Barack Obama, the resource provides:
Simplified version suitable for younger readers (Year 2–3), with accessible texts and questions.
KS2 version designed for Years 4–6, balancing retrieval, inference, vocabulary and summarising questions.
Extended version suitable for Year 6–7, offering greater challenge, deeper inference and critical thinking opportunities.
Answer keys included in a separate document to support quick and efficient marking, ideal for teachers and parents.
The documents are versatile – they can be used with children as young as Year 2 right up to Year 7. They work perfectly as a pre-loading tool before Black History Month starts, or as weekly homework tasks throughout October. They can also be delivered in class during reading lessons, promoting strong cross-curricular links between English and History.
The inclusion of multiple versions allows teachers to differentiate easily, ensuring all children can access the content at their level. The separate answer documents also make the resource excellent for peer- or self-assessment.
Engaging, informative and flexible, this pack helps children to not only improve their reading comprehension skills but also to deepen their understanding of important Black historical and cultural figures.
