This unit is designed with the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) in mind, with inquiry-based learning, intercultural understanding and creative expression.

It also aligns with the National Model Music Curriculum by supporting:

  • Musical skills development
  • Ensemble performance
  • Critical reflection and evaluation

Students will investigate Blues music; origins, notable composers/performers and the historical/social context.

Students will develop their understanding of the blues, practically exploring the music features to create an artistic intention for a final piece.

Students will perform as an ensemble.

Students will evaluate their performance, reflecting on their skill development.

The lessons focus on:

  • A deeper appreciation of music as a cultural and historical force
  • Practical skills in composition, performance, and collaboration
  • Confidence in expressing artistic ideas and evaluating musical outcomes
