I was struggling to find a lesson with a practical context on division for my year 5 class. so I designed this one.
The story is, you are working for a party planner who is holding a celebrity birthday party with a list guests. There is information on the celebrities and their food needs, which changes the questions they must do.
Children have to share the party food out between the celebrities, taking into acount dietry and other needs.
There is an extension at the end as well
My class loved this, and were so involved with the story they barely noticed they were using their maths skills. Very good evidence for using maths in outside contexts.
