Worksheet to accompany the BBC video, Caligula with Mary Beard. The video gives a narrative of Caligula’s life, refers to the classical writers who give evidence about (or rather, do not give evidence about) Caligula. Mary takes the viewer to key sites connected with Caligula and provides an explanation to a range of archaeological and architectural connected to Caligula. There is a good discussion on the problem of succession, myth vs reality in the legend of Caligula as depraved madman and Caligula’s successes and failures as emperor. This resource is part of a unit of work for the NSW *Ancient Syllabus *for the Australian Curriculum, Higher School Certificate course, Part 4 - Historical Periods, Option J - The Julio-Claudians CE 14–69.
