Can DNA-v is a well-being learning program that improves the social, academic and emotional self-efficacy, self-regulation, and well-being of young people using Acceptance and Commitment Therapy techniques, mindfulness that is informed by Cognitive Behaviour Science.

This resource pack contains lesson plans, teachers notes, power-point presentations and a student workbook. We have also included relevant evaluation measures and mapped the learning outcomes to accredited Agored Cymru qualifications and the evaluation to the Well-being Area of the Welsh Curriculum for easy reporting to Estyn, but can be used universally for any journey-travelled measures schools want to report on.

"We received feedback from the pupils that Can DNA-v has helped them more than any therapist or counselor. I am so glad you showed me how to use Can DNA-v, as I can reintroduce the advisor, noticer, and discoverer to them again, and they can carry on using these coping skills” In School Wellbeing Coach.

This group and one-to-one wellbeing coaching program as a whole is designed to support the young person with developing a sense of purpose, meaning and self-esteem in a world where uncertainty, fast-paced change, peer pressure and the many voices of media can stifle their exploration of fulfillment and the freedom to develop a healthy, individual sense of identity.

The opportunity is given to the young person to explore the concept of personal success in a holistic fashion, with the main focus given to well-being; dovetailing with Martin Seligman’s PERMA (Positive Emotion, Relationships, Meaning and Accomplishment) model (Seligman, 2011). Elevate originally developed the positive psychology based Can-Do coaching program that supported young people to develop resilience and improved their self-esteem.

DNA-v has an Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) framework which enables the young person to meet life’s challenges with more self-awareness and a deeper understanding of how our mind, brain and body work together. ACT is a branch of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and is underpinned by Cognitive Behaviour Science (CBS). ACT is oriented in mindfulness and commitment to personal values.

Young participants develop self-regulation and self-management skills that become embedded through the wellbeing coaching and also develop some understanding of psycho-social factors. The programme is trauma informed, and hones in how to get the healthy -self to be the focus of the young person’s life so they can move towards holistic wellbeing and achieve meaningful goals
