This teaching resource explains the concept of poverty and how the capacity to aspire to greater things can reduce poverty. There is also an interview economist Prof Sayantan Ghosal who talks about what it means to be an economist and why economists are so important.

The activity sheet includes discussion points - seven questions the students can answer in groups or individually. There are also instructions on how to play a card game, which shows students why a person’s background, experiences and choices can affect their opportunities and economic status.
