This resource is designed for Year 9 based on the Pearson Edexcel KS3 Scheme of Work. These lessons are designed to specifically prepare students to start studying Edexcel History (9-1). This is lesson 5-6 looking at the Chapter on ‘Why did the First World War start in 1914?’. This lesson focuses on understanding the reasons why Germany wanted an empire and how this developed into a naval race between Britain and Germany. Activities in this lesson include studying data and answering questions, a video for visual learners, source analysis and a 12 mark exam practice question (Edexcel 9-1).
