This engaging and thought-provoking triple lesson is the fifth in a series of lessons designed to accompany the class reading of E.B. White’s 'Charlotte’s Web’ This lesson has a particular focus on ‘the miracle’ of Charlotte’s Web - and how different characters respond to it - throughout chapters 11 to 13.
The comprehensive and colourful PowerPoint presentation (24 slides) guides learners on a step-by-step journey towards understanding the text through:
-Retrieving key information;
-Understanding characters;
-Explaining key ideas.
The lesson contains a range of retrieval, vocabulary, inference and deeper thinking activities. For the deeper thinking task, children use an original explain template to help them to structure and formulate their responses. The template is provided in both Word and PDF format.
There is a lot of content here, so I would suggest perhaps breaking this up over two or even three lessons. The resources have been tried and tested for students in years 3-4, but may be adapted for other age groups, depending upon the individual context of the school and students.
