This lesson focuses on helping students of any age learn about chronology in History.
Chronology is a vital skill to learn, especially in History. Without it being able to understand the order of events, and therefore their significance, becomes much more difficult.
This lessons learning objectives are as follows:
- To understand chronology
- To apply skills related to chronology.
This lesson is split up into distinct sections:
- Turn and Talk starter comparing chronology to students’ real lives.
- Teacher Input talking about what chronology is.
- Chronology key word with speaking aloud task embedded.
- Timeline example to show pupils time periods from BC to AD, with a teacher led explanation of what AD and BC is.
- Independent Main Activity: Create a timeline using the dates on the board and ensure dates are in the correct order. This task can work well as an independent task or as a teamwork task or as a whole group guided task.
- Plenary task - True or false related to whether different dates are before or after another date. This task is designed to check if students have understood the difference between AD and BC.
