Work out the circumference and area of a circle, with a clear picture of which length is the radius and which is the diameter. 16 questions, full answers included.
Worksheet (1 page): the radius is drawn as a solid line and the diameter as a dashed line, so students can see which one they have been given. The first questions write out C = π × d and A = π × r² with the values partly filled in, including halving the diameter or doubling the radius when needed. The support then fades, and the page ends with how far a bike wheel travels in 10 turns and finding a radius from the circumference. Answers are given to 1 decimal place.
Further practice (1 page): graded by difficulty, with the area of a semicircle, a ribbon round a table, finding a radius from the area, a strip of card round a circle, the perimeter of a quarter circle and the area of a pond made from a rectangle and two semicircles. It finishes with the common mistake of using the diameter in A = π × r².
Answers to all 16 questions are included as a separate file.
Suitable for GCSE Foundation (AQA G17) and for Key Stage 3 classes working on circles.
