Complete KS2 planning for David Wiesner’s brilliant book - ‘Flotsam’. This book is excellent for developing creative writing opportunities, as well as exploring how authors use pictures to create meaning. There are 3 to 4 weeks of lessons in total which include more than one writing focus, as well as grammar and drama activities, and plenty of opportunities to explore and discuss the text.
The planning is easily adaptable for all year groups in KS2 and it would also be suitable for Year 2. I have taught this unit to Years 4, 5 and 6 and the children have always really enjoyed it and it’s produced great writing results from the children, as there’s plenty of opportunities for them to use their imagination.
At least one copy of ‘Flotsam’ is needed for this unit; I would also recommend an electronic version.
