Projects progress from jungle sound stories to suspense music, a spy theme in rondo form, Unknown Territory in ternary form, calypso, a chart-style song and a ground-bass composition. Students develop rhythms, harmonic backings, melodies and lyrics while exploring notation, modes and musical structure.
Designed for mixed ability Key Stage 3 music classes. Each project takes three to five lessons, and its worksheets should be completed in sequence. Students use voices, tuned and untuned percussion and keyboards; multitrack keyboard facilities are advisable for the more complex compositions. Teachers’ notes provide preparation, classroom guidance, differentiation, assessment and extension activities where appropriate.
