Pineapples: fruit… pizza topping… status symbol?

From the moment Europeans found pineapples in the new world in the late 15th century they became a sensation. For the next three hundred years they were seen as an indicator of good taste and extreme wealth. They influenced everything from fashion to language to architecture.
