This lesson supports Pearson Edexcel International A-Level Biology students in using semi-quantitative and quantitative methods to test for reducing sugars and starch. Students use Benedict’s reagent to estimate the concentration of reducing sugars and iodine solution to estimate the concentration of starch using colour standards.

The PPT guides students through the practical procedure, and how to compare colour changes with standards to improve accuracy and reliability. Students also practise recording results, interpreting data, and linking practical work to exam-style questions.
