Describing Story Settings – Year 3 English PowerPoint and Printables
Help Year 3 pupils describe story settings with carefully chosen nouns and adjectives. This illustrated lesson takes pupils from spotting clues in a text to writing their own setting descriptions.
The 16-slide widescreen PowerPoint includes clear explanations, beach and garden extracts, picture prompts, paired and group activities, a shared model sentence, independent writing and an exit check.
Pupils practise identifying where a story happens, using evidence to suggest a season, and choosing adjectives that help readers imagine a place.
Also included:
• Ali’s Beach: Word Detectives – identify nouns and adjectives and justify a likely season.
• The Garden: Setting Clues – find seasonal clues and describe the garden in summer.
• Ali and the Incoming Tide – plan and write a story using a six-panel comic.
• Teacher & TA Quick Guide – answers, assessment prompts, extension ideas and support for TAs and SEN.
The A4 black-and-white printables provide space for writing and drawing. Oral rehearsal, partner checks and reflection encourage pupils to explain and review their choices.
Please note: the PowerPoint contains image-based slides; individual text elements are not editable.
