A 14-page KS4 descriptive writing pack developing precision, imagery, sentence control, structure, editing and independent writing.

Descriptive Writing Mastery Pack: From Description to Distinction is a complete teacher-and-student resource designed to help pupils move beyond vague advice such as “add more adjectives” and write with greater control, precision and atmosphere.

The pack can be used as a short sequence of lessons, targeted intervention, revision material or independent practice. It is designed for KS4 descriptive writing and is suitable for GCSE/IGCSE English Language teaching where students are required to produce controlled descriptive writing.

The resource includes:

  • teacher guidance and suggested teaching sequence
  • clear descriptive writing success criteria
  • an annotated model paragraph
  • precise noun and verb practice
  • purposeful imagery and semantic-field activities
  • sentence length, rhythm and punctuation practice
  • structural planning using Establish, Narrow, Zoom, Shift and Echo
  • guided paragraph writing
  • an editing clinic using weak and improved examples
  • a full independent descriptive writing task
  • planning scaffold
  • self/peer assessment checklist
  • complete 450–650 word model response
  • detailed commentary explaining the model’s language, structure and sentence choices

The emphasis throughout is on deliberate writerly choices rather than feature spotting.
