Design & Make Catapults

Children look again at Roman catapults. Using a wide variety of materials, incl some mechanical components, they design & create a working model of a catapult in the Roman style. They develop their ideas, then compete to see whose catapult works best!

Suitable for years 3 and 4.

Practical resources that worked well in the classroom. A good background of catapult types too.

A great link between D.T, History and Science. This will be a great challenge for children to use their knowledge and develop their own ideas to make a catapult. Children will love this!

A really fun topic, well planned and considered, could easily be adapted to encompass other engineering tasks or topics. Great for creating cross curricular links.
