Detention / Exclusions work: school punishments

This essay guide is the perfect assignment to give a student who is in detention or who has been excluded for a day. It gives information about an episode of Educating Greater Manchester in which a student receives a punishment for his persistent poor behaviour. The assignment asks students completing it to consider what the student in the programme has done and to decide whether they feel the punishment was fair. Additionally it asks students to consider opinions from social media.

It has been designed to encourage students to think about punishments that they think are fair as many of them will be feeling hard done by when they are in isolation, detention or at home on an exclusion.

It is a very general piece so it can be used for any high school year group or individual student. It could even be used as part of a discussion for PSHE or Form Time.
