This lesson makes use of reading strategies as suggested in Doug Lemov's 'Reading Reconsidered' to develop competence in reading. This particular lesson uses an extract from Harry Potter and encourages pupils to apply contiguous, line by line, leap frog and close reading, which are all suggested strategies in Lemov's book. This lesson allows pupils to reflect on their own learning and find a suitable reading style for them. This lesson was used with KS3 but could be suitable for more able KS2. The lesson could also be easily adapted to suit another text.
