Different types of nouns

This lesson delves into the four main types of noun: common, proper, collective and abstract. It begins with a categories game to start and recaps on the different word classes. It then goes on to look at the different nouns in more detail, with some fun and engaging activities on each one. As well as looking at each type, the lesson also explores ways in which nouns can be used to add cohesion in a piece of writing, e.g. through the use of synonyms or pronouns. It also touches on expanded noun phrases for added description. The lesson ends with an animated picture for the children to write about, using and applying their knowledge of the different types of nouns and how we can use them to aid cohesion.
