A hands-on math activity combining picture puzzles, number recognition, logical reasoning, and classic domino gameplay. A flexible resource for math centers, small-group challenges, and differentiated learning.

After a long stretch of writing and calculating, little shoulders start to droop and focus begins to fade. That’s the perfect moment to clear the desks, pull out the tiles, and let the children piece together a Dino-Number — a quick, hands-on pause that refreshes their minds before you dive back in. When the whole class is ready for something more, the same tiles turn into a lively round of dominoes.

The 11 number sections are interchangeable, so you can use the entire set or select only the numbers your students are ready to practice. Start with numbers 0–5, then introduce additional numbers as their skills develop.

The strategic element makes this more than a matching activity: children need to consider their available tiles, anticipate possible moves, and decide how to extend the chain.

What’s Included

  • 44 printable domino tiles, each measuring 12 × 6 cm
  • 11 color-coded number sections covering 0–10
  • Four tiles per section to assemble a complete dinosaur and number
  • Visual examples demonstrating how to build sections and connect them
  • Detailed game instructions

Two puzzles in one game!

  1. Build a dinosaur. Assemble four matching pieces to complete a dinosaur with its number. Children practice visual matching, spatial reasoning, and attention to detail.

  2. Play dominoes. Connect the completed sections according to the classic domino principle, extend the chain, and plan each move carefully. Multiple possible arrangements keep the challenge fresh and encourage flexible thinking.

Printing and Preparation

  • Print on either A4 or US Letter paper. Both formats are equally suitable.
  • Cut out the 44 tiles along the outlines.
  • Laminating the tiles is recommended for durability and repeated classroom use.

How to Play
The game follows the classic domino principle, a familiar and well-established format that makes it easy to introduce and enjoyable to play repeatedly.

Players take turns connecting tiles, extending the chain, and looking for opportunities to complete a four-color square. The first player to use all their tiles wins.

Detailed rules and visual examples are included in the resource.
