Money, Money, Money!!!!

Prices between $1.00- $5.00

This is an adapted book to practice using the dollar up/ next dollar method for purchasing items at the store. The book has 9 items to practice purchasing. Students are given a choice of 3 prices on each page and are asked to pick the price that is the next dollar after the price shown. Students then read the sentence at the bottom of the page using the visual supports on the sentence strip. (Ex: I need $2.00 to buy the lettuce.)

Next, the student use the visual support on the opposite page, to count/ collect the correct bills to create the specified dollar amount.

After students finish writing the book I like to have them practice copying down the sentences they have made.

This is a great way to have students work on money awareness and dollar up while encouraging students to read/ write and speak in complete sentences. These books are especially great for students with minimal verbal skills.

• I recommend printing on 110lb card stock and heat laminating with a 3 or 5 mil laminate sheets.

When cutting out the alphabet pieces if you use a dab of glue on the back, your letter tiles will not slip while going through the laminator.
