Dragon Genetics Game

Have you ever wanted your very own pet dragon? Give students the opportunity to make their own pet dragon while learning about dominant and recessive genes. Help students grades 1st through 12th breed their own dragons using Punnett squares. Once the dragons are made, students can battle their dragons with a card game focused on the different traits each unique dragon possesses.

The game includes versions for different ages, students can:

Make one dragon
Make multiple dragons with the same parents and look at differences between siblings
Make multiple dragons from different parents and then choose from those children to make new parents and see the changes between generation
Show natural selection as a class, by eliminating dragons with certain traits
Breed dragons for specific qualities and then use them to BATTLE
Making a Dragon:

To make a dragon Students:
Choose a game version
Choose parent dragons
Fill in the Punnett Squares for the parent dragons
Spin to determine your baby dragon’s genotype
Use the genotype to determine the dragon’s physical trait
Find the picture of your dragon and color it
Use your dragon to pick out trait cards and battle a friend
Dragon Battles:

Find a partner
Use your dragon’s traits to pick out your ability cards
Get two small markers to use and place a marker on 10 life points
Players choose an ability card and place it face down on the table
Flip over cards at the same time and see which ability your opponent is attacking you with that turn.
Follow instructions on the card, and move your marker up or down on Life Points
Continue taking turns and placing ability cards down until one dragon gets to zero life points (that dragon loses the battle).
Increase engagement, while practicing Punnett squares and learning about genetics! This game is also thrown in for FREE as part of the Anatomy Thematic Unit!
