Early Years Sentence Writing tool kit

This is an EYFS resource for helping 4-5 year olds learn how to write a sentence with a 5-step guide reinforced with hand drawn visuals. The steps can also be used by students as a success criteria.

The PowerPoint consists of 17 slides covers

• Teaching of each step
  o Oral rehearsing of sentence using fingers
  o Capital letter for the first word
  o Reading finger to identify the next word
  o Two finger spaces between words
  o Full stop at the end

• Carpet activity: Spot the mistake and fix the sentence on whitebaords

• Classroom display resources (picture strips, flash cards, poster)

Visuals and embeded language have proved to be EXTREMELY effective in developing the sentence writing of early years pupils when used consistently and revisited on a daily basis.
