This worksheet is designed to complement any existing paragraph structures and support closer analysis of effect on the reader in response to texts.

By focusing on five keywords the resource:

  1. Aids students to avoid generic terms like ‘it makes the reader want to read on’ or ‘it puts a picture in the reader’s head’ etc
  2. Encourages student responses towards more personal approaches linked to closer linguistic analysis by reminding students to look at text extracts from multiple angles/perspectives.
  3. Promotes interpretative responses for less able or confident students by providing a useful reference point in exercise books for responses to common questions.
  4. Develops student responses further towards justifiable, feeling-oriented reactions to the text, enabling conceptual linking and ‘stretching further’ into stronger and more developed responses to quotations rather than shallow analysis.

The resource is divided over three ‘levels’ correlating to reading skills Assessment Objectives extending analysis, inferencing and evaluation in order to encourage adding multiple interpretations.
