OCR GCSE GATEWAY SCIENCE SUITE 2016 Electrical Cables
Controlled Assessment Practical Preparation
Additional science B B723 / Physics B753 / Further Additional Science B B763
Five experiments for students to prepare for controlled assessment. Suitable as a standalone double lesson or over a longer period with electrical resistance theory. 1 Tensile strength; 2 Resistance and type of metal; 3 Resistance and cross-sectional area; 4 Resistance and temperature; 5 Resistance and length.
These experiments have been fully tested and work well with simple equipment from the prep room. I’ve done all the trial and error work for you! (Who’d have thought it takes 1.5-1.7 kg to break 36 swg constantan wire?) All variables covered allowing students to discover relationships with resistance or tensile strength. Experiment 4 enables students to write a meaningful risk assessment in due course.
