Summary of passage

Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the first female president of Liberia, was born in Monrovia in 1938. Despite the challenges faced by girls in Liberia at the time, she was determined to receive a good education and studied economics and accounting in college. In 1980, a military coup forced Ellen to leave Liberia, but she continued to advocate for democracy and human rights from the United States. In 2005, she ran for president and became the first female president in Africa. During her presidency, Ellen focused on rebuilding the economy, improving education, and fighting corruption. She received numerous awards, including the Nobel Peace Prize in 2011, for her dedication to women’s rights and peace-building. Ellen’s perseverance and belief in herself serve as an inspiration to people worldwide, and her legacy will continue to inspire future generations.
